Fish and Fish Product
Indonesia is an archipelago of more than 17,000 islands. The fisheries capture potential is 6,409 million ton/year, comprising of territorial water potential which is 4.40 million ton/year; and in exclusive economic zone, it is 1,959 million ton/year. During the year 2004-2005, the prediction of aquaculture which is suitable for snapper and grouper is 1.059.720 ha and molluscs is 720 ha. The potential for the production of molluscs and aquaculture is 46.73 million ton per year. The export commodity of the Indonesian fisheries are tuna, shrimp, grouper, sea-weed, pearl, golden fish and others. During the period 2004-2005, the total Indonesian fisheries production which comprises of catcher (70%) and hatchery (24%) was 857,922 tons. Furthermore, during these periods, Indonesia has contributed 3.92% to the world fisheries production.
